Creatine and Peanut Butter

The summer after I graduated high school, I started training at this little dungeon gym in Middletown, Ohio.

With paint peeling off the walls, cracked mirrors and a cleaning crew nowhere in sight, this place had it's own special charm.

Filled with hardcore bodybuilders, powerlifters and guys that loved to train hard and heavy, there was always loud music playing, plates banging and guys screaming, grunting and dropping F-bombs.

If you didn't get bigger and stronger training here, it just wasn't in the cards for you.

Because of the hardcore nature of the gym, there was a brotherhood among the guys that trained there.

Guys trained together, busted each others chops and pushed each other to train harder and be better.

And like any good family, there was even the occasional fist fight when the chop busting went a little too far.

Anyway, there was this inside joke that floated around among some of the higher level guys whenever someone started making some serious progress out of nowhere.

There wasn't a week that went by that someone wasn't talking about "creatine and peanut butter".

Whenever a guy, seemingly overnight, would put on a bunch of muscle, someone would jump on him with, "I see you're back on the creatine and peanut butter."

The first time I ever saw someone bench press 495lbs, was a guy named Marty.

After the lift, I told him that was the biggest lift I'd even seen and he smiles and goes, "yeah, must be all the creatine and peanut butter."

I was young and naive, so it took me a while to figure it out, but I finally realized that "creatine and peanut butter" was code for supplements...the illegal kind.

When "creatine and peanut butter" was being thrown around, someone was making a tongue in cheek joke about using steroids.

If you hit a big lift or put on a bunch of muscle, it had to be the creatine and peanut butter.

So what does this have to do with you?

Kettlebell Training is Like Creatine and Peanut Butter

When you start training with kettlebells...

Your strength is going to skyrocket and you're going to make a ton of progress, really quickly...

Creatine and peanut butter.

When you start eating right and doing your mobility work...

Your athleticism will improve, your body will feel better and fat will start melting off you...

Creatine and peanut butter.

When you start living the Minimalist Athlete lifestyle...

You're going to become leaner, stronger and more athletic...

Creatine and peanut butter.

Then when people ask you how you got in such great shape, so quickly, you can either tell them the truth or just smile and say, "yeah, must be all the creatine and peanut butter."

In Strength and Health,

Dave
